The Bags Library
Where iconic bags meet the books that tell their stories
Books tell the stories written within their pages. Bags collect stories over time. Both carry traces of the lives around them, becoming records of taste, culture and a defined moment in time.
The Bags Library is a curated visual dialogue between iconic bags and fashion's most celebrated books — a space created for discovery and conversation, now open at Fashion Clinic Comporta until the end of December.

The Concept
At Fashion Clinic Comporta, The Bags Library brings together two forms of collecting: the designer handbag and the Assouline coffee-table book. Each bag on display — from Saint Laurent, Valentino and Fendi — is presented alongside the fashion books that trace its house's history, its icons, and the creative directors who defined it. It's a concept built for anyone who reads a room the way they read a bookshelf: with an eye for craftsmanship, heritage and detail.
The edit spans decade-defining silhouettes and current-season pieces, shown as objects of design as much as function — the kind of bags that, much like the books beside them, become part of a personal archive over time.
The Bags
By Brand

Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent bags carry the same discipline that has defined the house since Yves Saint Laurent redefined womenswear in the 1960s. Under Anthony Vaccarello, the Saint Laurent handbag collection balances that heritage with a sharper, more architectural point of view — from the structured Sac de Jour to the quilted Loulou and the ladylike Kate. Each design plays with proportion and hardware in a way that feels distinctly Parisian, distinctly Saint Laurent.

Valentino
Valentino Garavani bags translate the maison's Roman heritage into some of fashion's most recognisable hardware and silhouettes. The Rockstud, with its pyramid studs, remains the house's signature — reinterpreted season after season across totes, crossbody and top-handle styles. Under Alessandro Michele, the Valentino handbag range has taken on a more eclectic, maximalist edge, layering the brand's couture roots with bolder colour, texture and detail.

Fendi
Fendi bags are inseparable from Rome, and from a design language built on architecture, craft and playfulness in equal measure. The Baguette, credited with launching the "It bag" era in the late 1990s, remains the house's most iconic design, alongside the sculptural Peekaboo. Fendi's leather goods are defined by their double-F hardware and construction quality — pieces made to be carried, and collected, for decades.
The Shelf

Assouline Books
Alongside the bags, The Bags Library brings together a shelf of Assouline titles charting the houses, icons and creative directors that shaped modern fashion — from Yves Saint Laurent's private world to the archives of Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton. Each book is a piece of the same story told in a different form: a record of taste, craft and cultural moment, meant to be read as closely as the bags are worn.

The Bags Library is on display at Fashion Clinic Comporta until the end of December. Step in to see the full edit in person — bags, books, and the stories behind both.
